If there is one thing you take away from this post, let it be this. You don’t have to buy nursing specific pajamas to nurse your baby comfortably and affordably! As a Mom of 4 young kids, I’ve been searching for the last 5 years for the perfect nursing pajamas that would provide both comfort, style and affordability and I FINALLY found them (all I keep thinking in my head as I edit this is Spongebob saying “5 Years Later” – lol can you tell I’m a boy mom?
The reason these pajamas are perfect is because they are button downs and totally affordable! They are nursing friendly, save you money, and fit during pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. I learned this the hard way lol, so let me save you the time (and money) while I share with you my staple pajamas that I discovered during postpartum with my 2nd.
So, this all started in December 2019 after having my first baby, I had been on the lookout for the best pajamas/lounge wear for both pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. Even though I knew that it wouldn’t be our last baby, I refused to purchase overpriced maternity/postpartum pajamas and lounge wear that only fit during the last trimester and was super uncomfortable and baggy after baby arrived. I also wanted something that I felt good in – there isn’t anything sexy about nursing clasps on pajamas after the kids are down and you’re ready for some quiet time with your spouse. I just wanted something that would be comfortable enough to fit a growing belly, let me feed my baby without having to mess around with nursing clasps, look cute, was affordable and still fit me postpartum and beyond. I literally searched the ends of the internet to find anything that wasn’t created or labeled nursing wear. (Something I will share though, and what made me realize button downs could be a perfect option was when I stumbled upon an old blog post by Jillian Harris from back in 2016. Jillian laid out her recommendations for the best nursing clothes from when she was around 6 weeks postpartum with her first baby and I went and purchased a few button downs after reading her post and loved how easy they were when out in public and I could keep wearing them even when I wasn’t feeding anymore. They were perfect! I’ve linked the post here and above if you’re wanting to take a look. I know the post is old, but I honestly used the recommendations to help build my wardrobe up for maternity/postpartum over the last 5 years.)
Anyways, back to the pajama situation. I got so fed up during a late night feed one night after having my second – I was over tired, felt like trash, was so uncomfortable in my nursing pajamas (cue endless online shopping during those midnight feeds lol) that I randomly ordered this button down nightgown off of Amazon hoping it would at least be more comfortable and better than the pajamas I was in. If button down shirts worked for nursing in public then why wouldn’t button down pajamas work for feeling comfortable while nursing at home? (If they looked cute that would be a bonus).
I honestly didn’t get my hopes up. At the time I hadn’t ordered any clothes off of Amazon let alone pajamas and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. When it arrived though, I was so pleasantly surprised and loved how it felt, how easy it was for feedings and after a few weeks and many MANY washes I couldn’t believe it hadn’t pilled or ripped. And it was only $25 – affordable and just what I was looking for. I was so happy LOL – I know you’re probably thinking, “Really? This happy about pajamas”, but yes, I was THAT happy. In the depths of postpartum and pregnancy it really is the little things that can make such a difference in how you feel.
Fast forward to me getting pregnant with baby number 3 I was so happy that these pajamas were comfortably fitting with my growing belly that I went online and bought the exact same pajamas again along with the long sleeve/long pant lounge set and shorts set. (I sized up on these to accommodate my belly but would say that you don’t necessarily need to unless you’re looking for a slightly oversized fit). Again, I loved them all, the sizing up was great for the pants to accommodate a growing belly and the material was the same as the button down. The bonus of all of these though (aside from the fact that they also kept well during my pregnancy with my 4th). I’m now almost 4 months postpartum and they are still so comfortable and cozy, fit well and they are all affordable. They also come in different colours!!
So, what makes these the Top 3 Most Affordable Nursing Pajamas for Style & Comfort?
- AFFORDABLE. If you’ve ever tried on or spent $200 on the SKIMS Soft Lounge Set, these are them exactly without the major price tag. Don’t get me wrong, I love a nice splurge on some SKIMS, but these are the exact same thing without the hefty price tag.
- THEY ARE SO SOFT & COMFORTABLE. They are so soft and comfortable and feel so good. They’re super breathable and cozy during those warm summer nights (with my A/C blasting lol), and they’re just the right weight for those cool winter nights with a fire on and a cozy blanket. They are snuggle up on the couch with your baby and ignore the rest of the world type comfort.
- THEY ARE DURABLE AND LAST. I unfortunately didn’t stumble upon the Amazon Essentials line up until after my 2nd child, but here I am 4 kids later having survived spit up after spit up, food spills etc and after multiple washes a week for the last 2 or 3 years they haven’t pilled, ripped or had any seams come undone. Mom tested and approved!
- DIFFERENT STYLES. Whether you like long sleeves and pants, shorts, or prefer sleeping in a nighty these come in all three styles making them suitable for everyone. I also love them because when you have guests over and just want to be comfortable while feeding your baby, these are perfect. They aren’t see-through and are totally appropriate for visitors in those early days as well.
Save yourself the money and time and just try a pair! After all, it’s Amazon, if you truly don’t like them you can always return them for a refund, but I promise you won’t be disappointed and your bank account will thank you for not having to clothe your pregnant and postpartum body multiple times. (Or if you’re like me you’ll start buying them in different colours because you love them so much.)
So there you have it, my Top 3 favourite and most affordable nursing pajamas for both comfort and style. If you tried them out and loved them as much as I do, feel free to leave a comment below! I’d love to hear what you think. If you’ve found other pajamas that you love as well please feel free to leave a link to those in the comments below. I always love trying out new styles and looks.
